穴窯

先日の窯焚きの写真です。文章は、MIHO MUSEUMの「信楽　壺中の天」の図録からです。MIHO MUSEUMの図録は英訳もあり素晴らしいですね。

窯出しは、何点かすごくいいのが焼けていました。

穴窯は最も原始的な構造をもち、古くから使われてきた窯である。勾配のついた山の斜面に穴を掘ることで、野焼きでは拡散してしまう熱を蓄え、しかも低い方を焚口にすることで熱の上昇性を利用して加熱蓄熱し、焼成する方法である。　

The anagama, or tunnel kiln, is oldest form of kiln construct and has been used since antiquity. By digging a hole on  a sloping hillside, a potter is able to concentrate the heat which would be dissipated in tthe most rudimentary field firing, and by placing the kiln's fuel feed door at the lower end of the sloping consttruct, fire the pots by the rising effect of flames, thereby adding and conserving heat through the structure.
